Artificial intelligence has become a pivotal force in the world of technology over the past few years, transforming how we work, teach, learn, and conduct research. As society continues to adapt to this world-changing new technology, many institutions close to home have had to respond. For example, the University of Toronto has developed policies to address the impact of AI’s rapid evolution on university studies. At Regis St. Michael’s Faculty of Theology, where we are deeply committed to discernment and engagement with the world, we too are asking an important question: What insights can theology offer about the advent of artificial intelligence?
With this in mind, we are excited to announce an upcoming event: Artificial Intelligence: A Theological Perspective from a Soulful Practitioner and Former Student. This engaging panel discussion, moderated by Gordon Rixon SJ, President of Regis College and Professor of Systematic Theology, will feature distinguished guests: Sheldon Fernandez, co-founder of DarwinAI and an MTS graduate of Regis College; Michael Gruninger, an AI ontology specialist from U of T Engineering; and Cory Andrew Labrecque, an ethicist from Laval University.
The discussion will take place next Tuesday, January 21, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at St. Joseph Chapel (100 Wellesley St. W). A recording of the event will be made available on the Regis St. Michael’s website. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A session, followed by a light lunch.
You don’t want to miss this chance to explore the theological implications of this innovative technology!
