Basic Degrees

Regis College offers three distinct entry level Master’s programs in theology. The twenty-unit Master of Theological Studies offers those with an established professional identity an opportunity to enrich their work and personal lives with a trans-disciplinary study of theology. The twenty-unit Master of Arts in Ministry and Spiritualty offers those with active ministerial experience an opportunity for reflection, professional development and personal integration, and/or an opportunity to discern their call and capacity for the ministry of spiritual direction. And the thirty-unit Master of Divinity offers newcomers to ministry the first formation required for ordained or lay ministry in the Roman Catholic tradition.
  • Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.)

Awarded conjointly by Regis College and the University of Toronto
The Master of Theological Studies Program is a first degree in theology that complements previous professional or academic training. Students may select one of two focuses. The Integrating Studies focus enables students to engage in a dialogue between their profession and/or life experience and theology in an environment enriched by graduate theological research. Experienced church ministers may also find this a rewarding program for ongoing professional development. These studies take place in a Roman Catholic faith community grounded in Ignatian spirituality that prepares students to respond insightfully and creatively to the needs of the world with generosity and discernment.

  • Master of Arts in Ministry and Spirituality (M.A. in M.S.)

Awarded conjointly by Regis College and the University of Toronto
The Master of Arts in Ministry and Spirituality program is designed for women and men with active ministerial experience who seek to expand and deepen a social and spiritual vision through theological study and reflection on the personal and societal dimensions of work and service in a post-modern culture. It emphasises a deepening of theological understanding as well as training in specialized pastoral skills. This program may be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis.
  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.)

Awarded conjointly by Regis College and the University of Toronto
The Master of Divinity program prepares students for professional ministry and leadership within the Roman Catholic Church. It provides them with the opportunity to develop academically, spiritually, personally and professionally within a richly varied learning and worshipping community. Students study in an environment enhanced by the academic research of the faculty and students of the College’s advanced degree programs, as well as by the pastoral concerns and questions offered by those experienced in ministry. Students are immersed in the ecumenical, interfaith and multicultural context of the Toronto School of Theology and the University of Toronto, located in one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse cities in North America.

  • Diploma in Spiritual Direction (Option Concurrent with the MA in MS or the MDiv Degree)

In Spring 2020 the Regis College Academic Council approved a Diploma in Spiritual Direction (DipSD) that can be concurrently earned with either the MA in MS degree or the MDiv in recognition that rigorous academic theological training combined with a transformative method equips spiritual directors with the self-awareness, affective freedom, and intellectual flexibility required to accompany the spiritual journeys of women and men from diverse cultures and religious traditions. The diploma is designed for those who have completed an initial period of discerning a potential involvement in this ministry as well as experienced spiritual directors who seek ongoing professional development. The program is a process of formation which requires candidates to have considerable life experience, a high level of maturity and the capacity for genuine self-awareness. The Diploma in Spiritual Direction may be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis.
