REMEMBERING THE HOLOCAUST

I. Introduction: Hon. Irwin Cotler (pre-recorded)

The former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Irwin Cotler is the Internation Chair of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights.

II. Participants:

i. Marsha Lederman is an award-winning journalist and author. Now a columnist for The Globe and Mail, she was previously the Globe’s Western Arts Correspondent. Marsha is a child of Holocaust survivors and has published two books: the 2022 memoir Kiss the Red Stairs: The Holocaust, Once Removed and October 7th: Searching for the Humanitarian Middle, a collection of Globe writing. Born in Toronto, she has lived in Vancouver since 2007.

ii. Jeanette Goldman, a child holocaust survivor was born in Krakow Poland, and raised in Sydney, Australia where she and the only survivors of her family, found refuge after the war. Since immigrating to Canada in 1962, she has become a federal and provincial tribunal judge, a member of the immigration and refugee board, workplace safety and insurance tribunal, and the Israeli delegation to the United Nations. She lives in Toronto.

iii. Respondent: Mary Jo Leddy Ph.D.

Mary Jo Leddy is recognized for her work with refugees at Romero House, Toronto. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Toronto with a thesis titled “The Event of the Holocaust and the Philosophical Reflections of Hannah Arendt”, under the direction of Emil Fackenheim.
