Regis College Degrees

In 2022, Regis College and the University of St. Michael’s Faculty of Theology federated to create a single graduate-level academic entity, called the Regis St. Michael’s Faculty of Theology.

Regis College offers a number of conjoint degree programs and ecclesiastical degree programs. The conjoint degrees are divided into Basic Degrees (Second-entry Undergraduate Degrees) and Graduate Degrees. These conjoint degrees are conferred by the simultaneous exercise of power and authority of the University of Toronto and Regis College. The ecclesiastical degrees are not conjoint degrees and are solely conferred by Regis College as an ecclesiastical institution.

BASIC DEGREE PROGRAMS

  • The MDiv, MTS, and MAMS programs specialize in education and formation for ministry, including ordained ministry, religious education and other pastoral ministries, especially in the Catholic Church. The twenty-unit Master of Theological Studies offers those with an established professional identity an opportunity to enrich their work and personal lives with a trans-disciplinary study of theology. The twenty-unit Master of Arts in Ministry and Spiritualty offers those with active ministerial experience an opportunity for reflection, professional development and personal integration, and/or an opportunity to discern their call and capacity for the ministry of spiritual direction. And the thirty-unit Master of Divinity offers newcomers to ministry the first formation required for ordained or lay ministry in the Roman Catholic tradition.

  • The ThM program affords the opportunity for further study to those who have completed an MDiv.
  • The DMin program offers advanced level theological reflection and research on the practice of ministry.
  • The MA, and PhD programs are designed to provide a research-oriented education for those preparing to teach and pursue research in universities, seminaries or schools of theology.

ECCLESIASTICAL DEGREE PROGRAMS

In addition to these conjoint degrees, Regis College also offers ecclesiastical degree programs through Regis College. As an educational institute holding both ecclesiastical and civil charters, Regis College also offers three ecclesiastical degrees recognized across Canada and around the world.

  • The thirty-unit Bachelor of Sacred Theology is a “first-cycle” program, corresponding to the Master of Divinity, that provides first formation in ministry.
  • The two year, “second cycle,” Licentiate in Sacred Theology provides the basic level of competence to teach theology in many Roman Catholic schools and is often pursued in conjunction with a Regis College research oriented advanced master program.
  • The “third cycle” Doctor of Sacred Theology offers the in depth preparation required to teach at an advanced level or exercise other creative forms of leadership in the Church.
