Regis College is pleased to announce that it will award an honorary doctorate to the Irish Province of the Society of Jesus this year, in recognition of their significant contribution to the mission of our college in preparing Jesuits for service worldwide.
Over the past five years, the Irish Province has generously provided Regis College with substantial financial support to assist in the formation and education of Jesuits, particularly those from the global south. This remarkable generosity has been transformative for our college. Our partnership with the Irish Province has enabled us to welcome Jesuit scholastics from Brazil, Vietnam, various provinces of India, the Middle East, Lithuania, and many other regions. In effect, it has strengthened Regis as a global crossroads of intercultural exchange and multi-directional learning.
This partnership has furthered the Society’s global mission of developing faith leaders worldwide. Regis College continues to stand out as an international centre of Jesuit theological education, and this is largely due to the generous and ongoing relationship we have with the Irish Province.
To show appreciation for this lasting partnership, Regis College will award the honorary doctorate to the Irish Province of the Society of Jesus. Rev. Dr. Shane Daly, SJ, Provincial of Ireland, will represent the Province at the ceremony and accept the honour on its behalf.
