SUMMARY:Passover & Easter 2019
DESCRIPTION:Passover and Easter are both feasts about the journey from slavery to freedom. This course will explore both feasts from the perspective of Jewish and Christian traditions. John’s Gospel is the primary text of the course. Focus will be on the complexity of the Passion narratives and the difficult texts related to Jews and Judaism. Other Jewish and Christian sources will include: Exodus\, Psalms\, Liturgical texts. Students will participate in the festivals of Passover and Holy Week/Easter and visit sites relevant to the programme. \nABOUT THE CENTER FOR BIBLICAL FORMATION \nBiblical formation is at the heart of the life and ministry of the Congregation of Notre Dame de Sion. The Centre for Biblical Formation in Jerusalem offers programs of study centred on the Word of God: drawing on Jewish sources and tradition; visiting sites related to the biblical text; reflecting on relevant Church Documents; and engaging with the peoples of the Land. \nAs a participant at the Centre you will have the unique opportunity to study\, contemplate and pray with the biblical text in the Land so central to its composition. You will be part of an international\, ecumenical community exposed to the best of contemporary Christian and Jewish scholarship. Living in this bustling and cosmopolitan city\, central to Jews\, Christians and Muslims you will begin to appreciate the religious\, cultural and political complexity that is Jerusalem. \n  \nFor more information\, visit about the Center for Biblical Formation: \nCLICK HERE \nor contact patricia.oreilly@utoronto.ca

SUMMARY:In the Footsteps of Jesus with John 2018
DESCRIPTION:Principal Lecturer: Prof. Kiernan O’ Mahony\, OSA\, Augustinian Friar and Biblical Scholar \nJohn takes us behind Jesus’ ministry where we get a glimpse of the paradox and complexity  which makes this important text the most Jewish and the most anti-Jewish of the Gospels. This course will examine theological discourse\, and difficult texts related to Jews and Judaism within the narratives of John’s Gospel. Jewish and Christian sources will be studied to highlight specific teaching. \nKieran J. O’Mahony STB\, STL\, HDipEd\, LSS\, PhD is an Augustinian friar and biblical scholar. His studies took him to the Milltown Institute (Dublin)\, the Gregorian University (Rome)\, the National University of Ireland (Maynooth)\, the Pontifical Biblical Institute (Rome)\, the École Biblique (Jerusalem)\, Trinity College (Dublin). He worked for twenty-two years in the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy\, latterly as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Scripture. He now works as Co-ordinator of Biblical Studies for the Archdiocese of Dublin. His main research interest is the letters of St Paul and the Gospel of John. His publications include Do We Still Need St Paul (Dublin: Veritas\, 2011) and Speaking From Within: Biblical Approaches for Effective Preaching (Dublin: Veritas 2016). His wider interests include the archaeology and history of the Holy Land. When not working\, friends\, music\, cycling\, hiking and cooking keep him reasonably sane. \nYou can read more at: www.tarsus.ie \nThis course can be taken for credit with Regis College and the University of St. Michael’s College\, Faculty of Theology.
