The world is presently fragmented\, polarized\, chaotic\, and fearful. Our difficult times call for radical hope and deeper commitment to the core of the Christian message embodied in the Beatitudes. Against the powerful counter-currents of many political and religious ideologies\, we seek to reconcile communities and build bridges to bring people together. \nCome and explore the richness of learning\, spirituality and action for justice shared by the students and faculty of Regis College. A series of mini-lectures presented by faculty will probe the breadth of the Catholic theological tradition\, the depth of Ignatian Spirituality and the value of each in action. There will be opportunities to tour the College and have informal conversations with program directors\, other faculty\, and current students throughout the day. \nDiscover Regis College at the heart of the University of Toronto by pre-registering for the Open House today! \n\nPlease pre-register online or by calling 416-922-5474 x221. \nRegister Online  \nPrivacy Notice: Contact information provided in the registration process will be retained and used by Regis College in accordance with its privacy policy. \n  \nSpring Open House Agenda\n\n\n\n\n	TimeDetails\n\n\n\n\n	10:00amRegistration\, Coffee and Refreshments\n\n\n	10:30amWelcome\, Morning Prayer\, and Overview\n\n\n	10:45amTitle TBA \nMini-Lecture presented by TBA\n\n\n	11:15amPresentation of Academic Programs\nEntry Level Programs - for newcomers to theological study\nTheological Research - for those holding a first degree in theology\n\n\n	12:00pmTitle TBA\nMini-Lecture presented by Professor TBA\n\n\n	12:30pmLunch\n\n\n	1:10pmTour of Regis College and Exchange with Current Students\n\n\n	1:45pmTitle TBA\nMini-Lecture presented by TBA\n\n\n	2:15pmFinal Informal Exchanges\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css_animation=””][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” css_animation=””][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Faith Issues Today: Rowing Into the Deep
DESCRIPTION:Rowing Into the Deep\nPresented by Dr. Peter Bisson\, S.J. (Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in English Canada) \nIn the 476 years since its founding\, the Society of Jesus has convened only 35 general congregations. On October 2\, 2016\, General Congregation 36 convened in Rome. A general congregation is the supreme governing body of the Society of Jesus. 200 plus delegates from around the world attended the congregation. All nine Jesuit provincials from Canada and the U.S attended. Fr. Peter Bisson will describe the process\, topics\, and decisions made that will guide the Jesuits and the Church in the coming years.\nThe logo for GC 36 was inspired by Pope Francis’ message to the Jesuits on the 200th anniversary of the restoration of the Society of Jesus. The pope urged Jesuits to discern in difficult times; to be receptive of and obedient to the will of God; and to row with him in the service of the church according to the call of Jesus to his disciples: “Put out into the deep.”\nOn the GC36 logo\, the IHS represents the Society’s boat in the church\, and the waves represent the sea where Jesuits are invited to enter and row out into\, toward frontiers. The cross represents the sail where the Spirit blows\, helping the Society row. The flame above the cross represents “a fire that kindles other fires\,” a link to the Jesuit charism. \nEnrollment is limited. SUMMARY:Dialectical Traditionalism: A Collaborative\, International Research Conference
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nCo-Hosted by the Lonergan Centre at St. Paul University (Ottawa)\, The Lonergan Centre at Boston College\, The Marquette Lonergan Project\, and the Lonergan Research Institute (Toronto).\n  \nThe Lonergan Research Institute (LRI) in Toronto will serve as the site for an international conference dedicated to increasing Lonergan’s “not numerous center.” This conference will be co-hosted by The Lonergan Centre at St. Paul University (Ottawa)\, The Lonergan Center at Boston College\, The Marquette Lonergan Project\, and The Lonergan Research Institute (Toronto). We have sought to make explicit the methodological parameters of Lonergan’s “not numerous center” (CWL 4: 245) through the notion of Dialectical Traditionalism (a phrase coined by our friends at Marquette). \nDialectical Traditionalism is a provisional name for a nascent mentality. It is ‘Traditional’ insofar as it acknowledges that we discover ourselves and our native situation(s) constituted in large part by a history of meanings and values. It is ‘Dialectical’ insofar as it exhorts us to give questions pride of place in our intellectual\, moral\, and political efforts. This questioning\, however\, is not merely a critical or even skeptical attitude towards the history in which we find ourselves. Rather\, it is\, yes\, a willingness to call elements of the tradition or traditions that feed our moment into question\, but it is also a dialectical openness to be called into question ourselves by these. Dialectical Traditionalism\, in other words\, is a mentality that calls for attention to one’s place in a history\, intelligent appropriation of one’s tradition\, reasonable judgments about its relative merits and liabilities\, and responsible risk taking in thought and action. Dialectical Traditionalism asks us to refrain from valorizing the old simply because it is old or the new simply because it is new\, but to instead carefully sift that to which should still say “yes” from that to which we must\, if we would retain our intellectual and moral integrity\, say “no.” \n  \nThe conference will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Friday and conclude at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.  All papers will be presented in the Solarium of Regis College. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but if you are planning on joining us for the Saturday evening social (and we hope you will!)\, we ask that you make a contribution of $10.00. \n  \nTo register or obtain a conference schedule\, please send an email to Eric Mabry (eric.mabry@mail.utoronto.ca).   \n  \nIf you are coming from out of town and are looking for a place to stay\, we recommend the Holiday Inn on Bloor Street (280 Bloor Street West\, Toronto\, Ontario\, M5S 1V8).  This will situate you within easy walking distance of campus. \n

SUMMARY:Windows on Theology
DESCRIPTION:Continuous Learning at Regis College\n  \nTradition in Progress – Doing Theology with the Fathers of the Church\nPresented by Eric Mabry \n  \nThis course invites students into the way of doing theology practiced by the Fathers of the Church\, so that our contexts and situations may be lit by the same fire which animated their own. The Fathers\, almost without exception\, were pastors. Their theology\, therefore\, is fundamentally one of encounter and relationship. Looking to the Fathers helps us to discover what it means for us to be bearers of the Tradition today\, so that we can more adequately and humbly appropriate the task of mercy to which we have all been called. \n  \nEnrollment is limited. Please pre-register to guarantee your space. Enroll online (valid Visa or MasterCard required). Course Fee: $175.00. \n \nRegister Online
