SUMMARY:La théologie pratique comme pratique théologique: une lecture d’Actes 10-11
DESCRIPTION:St. Peter Baptizing Cornelius (Acts 10: 44-48)\, Laurent Pécheux. \nLa théologie pratique comme pratique théologique: une lecture d’Actes 10-11\nFrench presentation with English PowerPoint bullets and summary\, followed by bilingual discussion\nThursday\, March 12\, 2020\, 7-9 pm.\n  \nQu’entend-on par « théologie pratique »? Can theology be “practical”? How does it involve “practices”? This presentation offers an understanding of practical theology based on three landmarks: experience\, conversion\, and interpretation. A reading of Acts 10-11 will accompany this view of a very active and crucial theological field. \nRobert Mager has taught Christology and Fundamental Theology at the Université du Québec (Trois-Rivières\, 1994-2004)\, and Practical Theology at Université Laval (Quebec City\, 2004-2015). He has served as Officer\, Secretary and Vice-President of the International Academy of Practical Theology (2011-2017). Professor Mager has authored many articles on the fundamentals of practical theology and on religion in modern Quebec. SUMMARY:Art Exhibition Reception - "Salt of The Earth: People of Bruce & Grey Counties"
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n \n  \nSalt of the Earth: People of Bruce & Grey Counties is a compelling touring photography project from the Tom Thompson Art Gallery of Owen Sound\, Ontario.  The exhibit highlights over 40 years of environmental portraiture work by Willy Waterton. \n  \nFor Waterton\, the term “salt of the earth” describes “a decent\, dependable\, unpretentious person.” This phrase describes the people in the area\, whom Waterton had the honour and privilege of photographing over his career as a photojournalist. \n  \nThis selection of 20 photographs challenges the historical notions of portrait photography by examining through a contemporary lens the ordinary – yet extraordinary – diligent and humble people of the community. Each of these photographs documents a way of life that has vanished or is currently disappearing from life in Northern Ontario. \n\n  \n  \nAbout the Artist:\nA self taught photographer\, Willy Waterton spent 35 years as a full time photojournalist at an Ontario daily newspaper. During his tenure as chief photographer\, he oversaw the transition from black and white to colour\, then finally to digital. His newspaper photographs have won over 100 provincial and national awards. In 1990\, Willy was named Ontario News Photographers’ Association Photographer of the Year. \nHis photography has appeared in national and international magazines\, newspapers\, and books including the Globe and Mail\, New York Times\, and National Geographic. His work is in both public and private collections. \nWilly’s lifelong love for the Niagara Escarpment and Bruce & Grey Counties has led to his photographic commitment to protect and interpret this special part of Canada for viewers to enjoy. \n  \n  \nThis exhibit will be on display at Regis College until Monday\, May 4.\n

John Mary Fraser Centre of Practical Theology” (or the “Scarboro Missions Chair of Inter-religious Dialogue”) was made possible through the Scarboro Missions Legacy. Scarboro Missions is a Society of Apostolic Life of Canadian Catholics\, priests and laity\, motivated by the Spirit and dedicated to the person\, teaching\, and mission of Jesus Christ as expressed in his words: “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10). SUMMARY:The Eucharist\, Bond of Love - Crossroads of Theology Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Crossroads of Theology\, a series of talks and socials for young people exploring the intersection of theology with current affairs and culture. This series is hosted by the students of Regis College\, the Jesuit School of Theology in Canada. While Crossroads talks are primarily aimed at those aged 18-35 years old\, students of all ages are welcome to attend. \nSusan K. Wood\, SCL\, Academic Dean of Regis College\, will present “The Eucharist: Bond of Love (viniculum caritatis)” \nThe Constitution on the Liturgy from Vatican II called the Eucharist a “viniculum caritatis\,” “a bond of love” (SC 47).  This bond of love is the bond not only between an individual and the risen Lord\, but also the bond of love among all those who receive the Eucharist\, and is thus inseparable from its eccleisal and social meanings. This talk explores the relationship between the Eucharist and the bond of charity within the Christian community: it is not a “warm\, fuzzy feeling”\, but has a deep ontological density.\n \n  \nTalk begins at 5:15\, followed by a reception with free food and great company! This is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow-students who are studying around the GTA. Don’t want to go alone? Bring a friend! The more the merrier! \n  \n  \nPlease make sure to register below; having correct numbers ensures there’s plenty of food to go around!\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Windows on Theology: Understanding Sacred Space
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nWindows on Theology – Regis College’s continuous learning series – offers non-credit courses of six to eight sessions on topical issues in scripture\, church history\, pastoral studies\, and theology.\n  \n \n  \n  \nThroughout history\, architecture has played a major role in giving tangible\, meaningful expression to a particular culture’s beliefs\, values\, hopes\, and aspirations.  Arguably\, this is most profoundly expressed in the sacred spaces that we build. Join architect Roberto Chiotti in exploring how the style of Christian architecture evolved in response to major external influences\, andthe  changing ways we understand our relationship to God and Creation.  Participants will also learn to understand their own places of worship and how they either support or detract from evoking a sense of the sacred\, the liturgy\, and sacramental life of the parish. \n  \nFor full details of this course\, CLICK HERE\nTo register\, CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:Old Dogs\, New Tricks: Early Christian Attitudes Towards Marriage\, Sexuality\, and Children - Crossroads of Theology Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first Crossroads of Theology lecture of 2020. Crossroads of Theology is a series of talks and socials for young people exploring the intersection of theology with current affairs and culture. This series is hosted by the students of Regis College\, the Jesuit School of Theology in Canada. While Crossroads talks are primarily aimed at those aged 18-35 years old\, students of all ages are welcome to attend. \nMeghan Bowen\, PhD Student at Regis College\, will present “Old Dogs\, New Tricks: Early Christian Attitudes Towards Marriage\, Sexuality\, and Children”. \nDiscussions around the theological meaning of marriage\, human sexuality\, and procreation seem to be omnipresent in the Roman Catholic Church and beyond. Our questions\, however\, are not new. Over a millennium ago\, the Patristic writers wrestled with the same concerns. What insights did they gain into the meaning of conjugal life? And\, perhaps more importantly\, how might it shed light on our own questions today? \nTalk begins at 5:15\, followed by a reception with free food and great company! SUMMARY:"Paul\, We Hardly Know You" 2020
DESCRIPTION:Mention of Paul seldom elicits a neutral response from people\, for he is idolized by some and roundly loathed and hated by others. Many labels have been pinned on him: renegade from Judaism and founder of Christian anti-Semitism\, misogynist and oppressor of women\, founder of Christianity (not at all in a positive sense!)\, perverter of the simple teachings of Jesus\, and either proto-Catholic or proto-Protestant. These labels do not withstand the sound\, cutting – edge Pauline scholarship of the last 50 years. This ‘new perspective’ as it is called combines careful historical study and textual analysis to understand Paul in the context of the Second-Temple Judaism to which he belonged. The Paul that emerges from this new perspective is a complex and nuanced individual\, as well as a true religious genius\, visionary\, and religious innovator. Please join us as we become acquainted with the Paul we never knew. \nABOUT THE CENTER FOR BIBLICAL FORMATION \nBiblical formation is at the heart of the life and ministry of the Congregation of Notre Dame de Sion. The Centre for Biblical Formation in Jerusalem offers programs of study centred on the Word of God: drawing on Jewish sources and tradition; visiting sites related to thebiblical text; reflecting on relevant Church Documents; and engaging with the peoples of the Land \nAs a participant at the Centre you will have the unique opportunity to study\, contemplate and pray with the biblical text in the Land so central to its composition. You will be part of an international\, ecumenical community exposed to the best of contemporary Christian and Jewish scholarship. Living in this bustling and cosmopolitan city\, central to Jews\, Christians and Muslims you will begin to appreciate the religious\, cultural and political complexity that is Jerusalem. \nFor more information\, visit about the Center for Biblical Formation: \nCLICK HERE \nor contact patricia.oreilly@utoronto.ca
