Lenten Thoughts for Friends of Regis College (Week Three)

Third Sunday of Lent

Image reflection“For when Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for water to drink, he had already created the gift of faith within her and so ardently did he thirst for her faith, that he kindled in her the fire of divine love.”  Preface of 3rd Sunday of Lent.

Jesus’ thirst as he sat at the well was a divine thirst for the faith and love of the Samaritan woman.  In this thirst he incarnated the desire that God has for each one of us.  The Samaritan woman was astonished that Jesus, a Jew would ask her for water to drink.  How much more astonishing is God’s asking for our love!

“The more aware we are of God in our midst, the more aware we are of the call to love God and one another.  During this season of Lent, we are invited to reflect on our lives.  How well do I love God, neighbour, and world?”  (Linda Labelle in Called to pray, 2012, eds., Gilles Mongeau, SJ & Brett Salkeld.)

Please join Regis in prayer this Lent.  This is a generous gift with and for Regis’ ministry.
