Regis Alumni Association Announces New President

This year’s Annual Alumni General Meeting proved to be a great success, with the number of Alumni attendees doubling from previous years. The AGM is an opportunity for Regis alumni/ae to gather together and discuss the alumni activities over the past year, as well as to share and develop ideas for new initiatives in the future. “I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your presence here,” said Catherine von Zuben, former Interim President of the Alumni Association, as she welcomed the attendees. After some opening words, Catherine led the group in a prayer entitled “Trust in God” by Thomas Merton. Following brief introductions, Fr. Thomas Worcester, S.J. emphasized the important role that the Alumni Association plays in the development of the College, both in the immediate Toronto area as well as abroad.

Anne Quinn-Wallace

During the AGM, Regis alumna Anne Quinn-Wallace was voted the new President of the Alumni/ae Association at Regis College. We are so grateful for Anne’s willingness to take on this new role, and Regis College looks forward to working closely with Anne and other association members in the future.Anne Quinn-Wallace came to Regis College following a successful career in Nursing Education, completing both her M.T.S. and a Diploma in Spiritual Direction (2015). “Ignatian Spirituality,” she says, “shapes her life and work.” Anne is presently employed as an assistant in the spiritual direction component of the M.A.M.S. program at Regis. This type of vocational work, she says, invigorates and inspires her. As the new Alumni Association President, Anne hopes to reach out to all former Regis students as a source of support to the College community; she hopes many local alumni will consider attending the Wednesday liturgies hosted at Regis College, as an opportunity to worship together, reconnect with old classmates, and gather in community with Regis students, faculty, staff and friends.

Following the AGM meeting reports and board member nominations, Dr. Meg Lavin, Ph.D., Professor Emerita, Regis College and Provincial Assistant to the Jesuits of Canada for Partnership Formation, led the Regis College Alumni/ae Association through an understanding of the process of Communal Discernment in the Ignatian Tradition. Such discernment emerged as one of the key elements from the General Congregation 36 (2017) of the Society of Jesus, and it is a top priority of the major apostolates of the Jesuits in Canada at this time. The Alumni/ae Association has an important role to play in the development and advancement of this College. On December 8, 2018, Meg will facilitate another meeting for the Association that will assist them in their plans to clarify and implement their future contribution to the ongoing intellectual apostolate of the Jesuits in Canada provided by Regis College.
