Awarded conjointly by Regis College and the University of Toronto
The Master of Theology (Th.M.) program is designed to deepen the student’s knowledge of theology and to further their preparation for doctoral study or pastoral ministry.

It serves a variety of aims, including advanced theological research, preparation for some forms of teaching, preparation for doctoral study, the scholarly enhancement of the  practice of ministry, and disciplined reflection on a specialized function in ministry.

Program Options

The ThM program offers two study options:

Option One

A program of six advanced level semester courses with a thesis. The course of studies consists of four courses in an area of major interest and one course in each of two other areas (ancillary, if possible, to the thesis). This option should be selected by students who wish to prepare for doctoral studies.

Option Two

A program of eight semester courses with an extended major paper. Six courses are to be selected in the area of major interest, two in areas of minor interest. At least four of the courses must be at the advanced level; up to four may be 3000-level courses with the provision that no 3000-level course can be taken where a 6000-level course is available. This program should be selected by those focused on pastoral ministry. Option two does not provide the basis for entry into the TST doctoral programs. Students with an appropriate background sometimes develop a concentration in Spiritual Direction in conjunction with option two of the ThM program.
